In fact I loved the blogger role so much that I got a little crazy and started 2 of them. This one, the McGee McBlog, intended to be full of personal updates. And the Mommy McBlog, intended to be geared towards the Mom audience.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">S<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">o the McGee McBlog has been merged with Mommy McBlog and I'm moving all my updates and posts there. The merger is a good thing. It's the equivalent of Disney merging with Pixar; Wendy's fries meeting with a Frosty; Carol Brady marrying Mike Brady. (Perhaps I'll go back to 2 blogs someday but for now I need to simplify my life, especially with a Beanette on the way).
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I promise that I'll still include many pictures, lousy attempts at humor, and random ridiculousness. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I've been getting all kinds of questions from friends and family so I thought I'd do my best to answer them all in one post. Here goes...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Good: Mostly everything! I have really loved being pregnant. It's been pretty cool to feel her move around and know that there is a little girl in my belly. She kicks the most in the morning and late afternoon. I think I even felt her hiccup the other day. So cute!<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Bad: Other than a few regular trips to the chiropractor for some back pains, I've been feeling really good still. Let's hope it continues.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Ugly: My sausage feet. They don't hurt but they some nights they get quite puffy. Gotta love Denny for being an amazing hubby and making me foot baths with Epsom Salt. :)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Name: Still a secret (mainly because we still have not decided on it). You can keep asking us, but we won't say a word until she's here.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Heat: Still not bothering me, but I get asked all the time if it does. Luckily, I'm fine with it.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Prep: Maybe I'm biased but her room is looking SO cute!!! Some days I sit in there and get teary imagining the first time we get to bring her in there and all the nights we will read her books and rock her to sleep. Just a few more projects to go and I think her room will be totally Beanette ready. I'll post lots of photos once it is complete.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Waiting: We've had a lot of people ask us if we are ready to meet her. If not, we are fine waiting for a little October baby.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Nesting: Yes, Yes and Yes! I'm getting a little nuts with the organizing, but I guess it's all part of the fun.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Cravings: I haven't had too many crazy cravings during the pregnancy, but I definitely won't turn down a Popsicle or ice cream. I also have been loving those neon gummy worms. Perhaps Beanette will glow when she arrives?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Today was the day; my final day as a hotel employee!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Very bittersweet. I can't leave the last 7 years of my life without a little ode to hospitality and events. It is where I met some of my best friends and had some of the most fun times. So without sharing too much incriminating information, here are

<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">My Top 5 Most Memorable Moments of Hospitality

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">(Drum roll please)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">#5 - While working as an events planner for 84 Lumber Company, I was responsible for planning the Annual Ten Year recognition Weekend at Nemacolin Woodlands. The crazy 4-day affair in 2006 started with about 25 broken awards, which had to be re-made and re-shipped from Chicago in 48 hours, but the craziest part of the weekend came as I was leaving. I was finally on my way home after barely sleeping for the four-day affair when I got a call that the 84 Lumber beaver head was missing. (I can't make this stuff up). It had been wrapped in a trash bag to be shipped back to the office and it was inadvertently thrown away. I had the pleasure of digging through the trash for hours but never recovered that darn beaver head. RIP 84 Lumber Beaver Head!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">#4 - It was very fun to come in contact with famous people while working in hospitality. I saw Nicole Richie (barely) eating lunch, greeted NHL & NFL teams, booked rooms for Tommy Lee and Motley Crue and watched Keanu Reeves during his morning smoke break.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">#3 - Lots of fun travel! Over the past seven years I've been able to travel to NYC a few times, Phoenix, Chicago, LA, Boston, San Diego, Dallas, Toronto, Albany, Saratoga Springs and lots of other places. Saratoga Spring never failed to be the most exciting -- Enjoy Saratoga Springs, Always have Excedrin from the next morning.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">#2 - A highlight reel of my time in hotels would not be complete without a recap of some crazy MOD memories that included: trying to have a rational conversation with wasted Long Island cops (not on duty fortunately) at 4 AM, dealing with guests that pee their pants in public, calling the cops on abusive husbands and handling a hooker that claimed she was assaulted by "clients"! And you wonder why people in hospitality tend to drink a lot.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">#1 - The A-M-A-Z-I-N-G People!!!! I had great co-workers that are now my great friends! It wasn't a day at office without morning bagel breaks, covering co-workers walls with birthing pool ads, turkey bowling, co-workers that wear Shape-ups, and even a bomb threat. But I think that one of my favorite nights had to be when the Hyatt girls took me out for a "few" drinks before Denny and I tied the know. Yikes, I'm not sure how 1 drink led to 10+ drinks, but it was a super fun night.com!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I. Love. The Olympics!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I think the Olympics are one of the most exciting times to be an American and get swept up in the competition, the intensity and the passion of the athletes and the countries they represent. I love hearing their stories of how they made it, and the adversity they overcame to be at the games.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As kids, Melissa and I used to follow the Olympics like it was our jobs. I'm sure if you look hard enough at my parents house, you'll find VHS tapes of all the opening ceremonies during the 80's. When the games started, Melissa and I cut out all the newspaper articles about the Olympics, followed the medal counts each day and even made giant Olympic scrapbooks featuring every magazine article from the entire summer (I can't lie, we were kind of losers).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We loved all the sports, but especially gymnastics. I spent many summer afternoons sprinting down the vault runway (aka the dining room into the living room) and then vaulting over the square pink ottoman we had in the living room (the couch was mint colored with pink flowers and the coordinating ottoman was pink -- needless to say, it was the 80's) pretending that I was about to bring home gold.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">When I finished vaulting practice, I spent my free time writing letters to Kim Zmeskal (she was way cooler than Shannon Miller because she didn't wear ugly hair puffs).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Shannon - Kim's not-as-cool teammate based solely on the hair puff
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">(although she was clearly 100% cooler than me, the girl vaulting off the ottoman)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">When we weren't busy watching the Olympics or writing to the stars, we participated in backyard Olympics at our friend Julie's house! We had tons of competitions including the cartwheel competition, swimming, broomstick throwing (aka the javelin) and relays.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">During the last time the summer Olympics were taking place, I traded in the vault runway and instead ran down the aisle to marry Denny. We didn't plan to get married during the Olympic festivities, but it kind of adds to the magic of the games.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This year I won't be vaulting or running down the aisle but I'll gladly take my seat as a spectator and sport my red & blue. The opening ceremony kicks off in just a few hours!!

<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Go Team USA!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Let me start at the beginning...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Four years ago Denny and I were getting ready for our Big Day and I was also making plans in my mind for another big endeavor, grad school! I had been in the hospitality and events industry at that time for about 3 years and I was starting to wonder what opportunities existed outside of the world of Heads in Beds. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Denny and I said I Do in August, and in November we said I Do to grad school. It was half the excitement of our wedding and twice the cost so I'm not sure what we were thinking (perhaps we were still drunk off Balashi beer from our honeymoon in Aruba).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Y-U-M!!

<><><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Denny and I pushed each other through the program one class at a time. Finally after 2 1/2 years of very little sleep, gallons of coffee, hours of work and 4 Gigs of my jump drive, we graduated, celebrated and returned to normal life aka sleeping more than 4 hours a night.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Double Hooray!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Since then this little piece of me has still been wondering what else is out there. Not that I haven't loved my time working with some amazing people in the crazy hospitality world, but I been full of curiosity. I felt like Columbus wondering if the world really was round. I just had to find out!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So, I did. And in just a few days I'll say good-bye to the hospitality world after almost 7 years.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I am SO thrilled to announce that I accepted a Business Development role at the UB Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. It wasn't necessarily on my To Do while 6 months pregnant, but I have come to find out that life rarely listens to any one's game plan. And when opportunity Knocks - you open the door, invite it in and serve it iced tea.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I have worked with the UB CEL team in the past, and I am joining an amazing team! They have been 100% supportive (and informed) about Beanette from Day 1, which makes one more change during this time of my life way less stressful. The really rewarding part of my new role is that my work at UB will help local business leaders grow their entrepreneurial spirit and ultimately help business in Buffalo thrive.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I'm really happy and I feel like I found my little place in life. So here's to another change in one of the most exciting years of our life! Oh, and go Bulls!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">PS I'm not the only pregnant woman taking on a new role. Yahoo recently hired a new CEO due with a Baby Boy this October.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">When we thought about getting a pet in the fall of 2006 we took a trip to the SPCA with no intention to bring anything home... then we saw a sweet little kitty struggling to even jump 3 inches from the upper shelf to the lower shelf of her cage. She was so cute and tiny we could not leave her. The next thing we knew, we were new kitty parents to Lexi!!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">During her first few months, she was so tiny that she would fit inside my heels, and we were constantly worrying about losing her. She once spent a few minutes in the fridge after sneaking in while we unloaded groceries. Luckily we realized it in no time, and found her on the beer shelf, chilled but unharmed.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Little Lex has been quite the little entertainer over the past few years! She is always there to greet us when we get home and is an excellent cuddler.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">For her Big Birthday today she celebrated with a Fancy Feast breakfast buffet. She rocked out to her favorite songs, Bringin Lexi Back (the other kitties don't know how to act) and I'm Lexi and I Know It! She had a nap and then watched out the window for her boyfriend kitty, Bazooka Joe. It was a pretty good day for her!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Happy Birthday Lexi! Six years ago today I would never imagine that I would spend my night blogging about a cat, but your cute little 7-lb self sure has worked your Lexi magic and turned us into your #1 Fans!! I'll have to confirm this with her when she arrives but here are my thoughts on her daily activities
<span style="color: magenta; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">5:30 AM
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Beanette wake up call because her big sister Lexi is dancing on my head for her morning Fancy Feast buffet. Beanette can't wait to meet her sister, kicks me in excitement and sends me to the bathroom.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">6:00 AM
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I'm pretty sure she is back to bed by this time, she apparently takes after us and likes to sleep late.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">8:30 AM
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Wide awake and ready for another Bring your Daughter to Work Day. She grows brain cells (250 per minute) while I try to make my way through morning e-mails. I'm not sure where she gets her ambition.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">11:00 AM
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Beanette kick boxing lessons. It appears that she is going to have a really strong core by the time she is born. I make trips #11-25 to the ladies room.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">1:00 PM
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">More napping. She seems to do this during much of the afternoon gearing up for a fun evening of activities
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">7:00 PM
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Beanette playtime!! I'm quite certain that this is how my bladder looks to her:
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I can't blame her for being excited. I would want to bounce too!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">10:00 PM
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">She's been jumping and kicking for a few hours now and finally seems to be tuckered out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">For years writing has been my favorite way to express myself. I remember feeling more comfortable writing papers in high school than speaking to people. And thank goodness for the creation of Instant Messenger in college or noone would ever know who I really am.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I've been loving the fun of writing the McGee McBlog and I keep wondering if I could somehow make it have more mass appeal... Soooo after much thought and even more brainstorming of ideas to Denny, Melissa, Lexi and any person or any cat that will listen, I've decided to merge my love of writing with the hilariousness of pregnancy and mommyhood (I'm sure trying to handle a 7-lb baby will have it's share of crazy moments). Thus, the idea of the Mommy McBlog was born.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">And after a downloaded book about blogging on my kindle and the purchase of the domain, MommyMcBlog.com, I think I'm ready to be a blogger.

Christmas music, hmm?!?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Normally this annoys me like no other. C'mon Pandora! If you are brilliant enough to figure out my favorite songs how do you not know it is currently summertime?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Today seems different though. Today Christmas songs are actually putting me in an extra good mood. I'm not ready for Santa to visit, and I'm definitely not ready to get out the winter clothes. (Heck, my summer clothes barely fit! Imagine me trying to squeeze into turtleneck sweaters right now... Hello Jaws of Life!)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">But today Christmas music makes me really excited for what our holidays will entail this year!! A cute little girl all dressed up in adorable red and green dresses with matching tights (thanks Auntie Melissa for her outfit)... a new stocking on the mantle... lots of toys under the tree. Beanette probably won't know or care much about the holidays but it is still really fun to think about all the new meaning the holidays will have with a cute baby girl in our lives.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This will be the ninth Christmas Denny and I will spend together and I'm pretty sure it will be one of the best yet. Now if only we could figure out her name so Santa can be sure to add her to the Nice List!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Happy Friday to all,

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">and to all a good weekend!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> ~~ Happy Weekend everyone! ~~

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I hope you are enjoying these lazy days of summer.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">For the picture of the week I thought I would focus on the one thing I'd been craving for the past few weeks...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I can't get enough of Popsicles lately (in particular the orange, lime and grape ones). They are cold, flavorful and delicious. I've always loved ice cream so maybe Beanette has inherited my love of cold treats during the summer.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">If this makes you hungry, feel free to stop on over. I bought the 100 popsicle value pack lately and I'm glad to share, especially if you like cherry or blue raspberry.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Happy Birthday America!

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We hope you had a great day, got tons of Happy Bday posts on your Facebook timeline,

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">and finished the day feeling full of cake and ice cream!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">In the McGee house we celebrated in a low-key manner. We slept in, Denny golfed and I spent a little time at the neighbor's pool (nothing shows patriotism quite like watching your pasty skin go from white to red -- if only I had a blue tattoo and I'd be all set!).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Then we ventured down to the Lancaster Festival for some incredibly healthy dinner options. An elephant ear is a pregnancy super food right?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">But as we enjoyed a great night, we couldn't help but notice the clothing, or lack thereof, that some of the young girls at the festival were wearing. Turns out that finding out the cost of daycare is NOT the scariest thing for soon-to-be parents... the scariest thing for a parents-to-be of a daughter is to see tweens showing more skin than Madonna in the 80's. Yikes, get out the shotgun!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So rather than focus much more on fireworks and picnics, I'm switching gears with this post and paying homage to our forefather's Declaration of Independence with a twist... the Declaration of Bean-dependence. Yes, this is for you Beanette. We are sure you will be a great kid and you will always exhibit excellent taste when it comes to choosing your clothes. But if you get the temptation to buy too-short shorts or wear a shirt that is less than wholesome, you can refer to this friendly declaration, and then recall that if you don't follow these simple rules, we will revoke any future Independence.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So without further adieu:

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Declaration of Bean-dependence

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Preamble
<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Dear Bean, Your father and I hold these truths to be self-evident, that not all fashion is created equal, that clothes are endowed to you by their Creator (aka your parents) with certain alienable Rights, that among these requirements are full coverage of your back, mid-section and the pursuit of coverage of your legs (all the way to your ankles).

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Indictment
<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The history of some of the girls in our current culture is a history of repeated fashion offenses and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny and complete fear of your father and me. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world (all of which you will not be permitted to wear)

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Shorts in which exhibit butt cheekage

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Shorts in which the pockets hang out more than 6 inches from the bottom of the shorts

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Shirts that resemble cobwebs in the back

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Shirts that have slits, holes, or slots

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Shirts that are see-through

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Shirts or shorts that cause boys to look at you in any way before you turn 32

<span style="background-color: white; color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Conclusion
<span style="background-color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We, therefore, the Representatives of you, the Beanette (our sweet baby girl), do, in the Name, and by Authority of the our attempt at being good parents, solemnly publish and declare that we hope you always make good judgements.

<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We love you so much already, and although you may roll your eyes at us and consider us overprotective, crazy and ridiculous we hope you know it is for good reason.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We've had a lot of people asking us Beanette's real name, and the truth is we really don't yet know it. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We've narrowed it down to about 10 or 15 names but we can't seem to commit to just one name. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> ~~ June 23, 2012 ~~

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">A date that we will always remember. A day that we thought we be a lot different.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Today is June 23, 2012 and we are here. I was wondering how it would feel to get to this day but it's not too bad.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Eight months ago today we found out we were going to be parents!! We were having a baby!! Exciting and crazy and overwhelming. It was finally our turn! We felt we were patient and we did it right... got our degrees, got married, bought a house, got more degrees, had good jobs. It was finally time to make our family a family of three! It was October 23, 2011 and within minutes I looked at the calendar and figured out June 23, 2012 would be the day we might welcome our baby. A sweet little June Bug! Even if if he or she didn't arrive on that day, we knew the day would symbolize a pretty big milestone.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We bought baby clothes, made our lists of names, told our families and pinched ourselves. It's amazing how many dreams can play out in your mind over the course of a few weeks. And it was all becoming real. We could not wait to decorate the room, meet our little one and spend our lives enjoying every second of a sweet baby.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As quickly as we found out the good news, we realized something wasn't right. An awful trip to the hospital in the middle of the night, a few tests, some agonizing days of waiting, and our worst fear was confirmed. We lost our June Bug. We always knew it could happen, but being naive we didn't think it would happen. The medical explanations didn't make much sense and certainly didn't help to heal two broken hearts. Denny became my rock and he supported me when I couldn't support myself.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Despite feeling totally lost, we realized how lucky we were to have so much love and support. Tremendous, unconditional support. Our families, friends, neighbors and co-workers wrapped their arms around us and helped us get by. And we slowly did. The good thing about life is that the sun will continue to rise every day. Eventually we noticed this.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Saturdays were normally the toughest because I always seemed to wake up thinking Today should have been 14 weeks, or Today could have been spent preparing for our baby. That and a day without a busy schedule often means the most time to think about things. But we eventually let go of the would haves and should haves. It took a while, but slowly the journey didn't seem just so dark anymore.

Four months and two days after the first round of good news, we found out that we were very lucky. We got good news again!! We were a lot more cautious and much more nervous, but this time was different (as shown by my growing belly).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Today we are in a good place. It has been a bit bittersweet but we have taken this day to relax and enjoy each other. We are really lucky to be able to focus on a sweet baby girl arriving in about three months. We have each other and we have an added appreciation for the miracle of a new baby. We will never take this experience for granted, and we will never underestimate how important it is to share our story with friends and family.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
One reason I really wanted to write this post is to thank all the friends and acquaintances came to me and told me their story of loss (I still hate the word miscarriage and avoid writing or saying it as much as possible because it seems so cold and clinical). I was astounded at how common it is to lose a baby, yet it seems to be something that is not commonly discussed. I found a lot of strength knowing that it wasn't a road I was walking down alone and I think that if talking about it helps even one person feel better, it is absolutely worth it.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Ironically our sweet baby girl is due October 2, just 13 days before Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, a day created to provide support for anyone who been down this road. It brings me peace to know that perhaps the Beanette will have a an extra little angel watching over her in life, not just on October 15, but everyday.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">~~~~~~~~~~~~

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">(On a side note, I always thought that our first baby would be a boy, and maybe he was. About 90% of the people I talked to that lost a baby went on to have a baby girl right after their loss. It makes me wonder if that is why we are now filling our house with pink.... )Denny & Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14851881460150984702noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2138068046076941274.post-29422067406928532652012-06-20T21:59:00.001-04:002012-07-15T22:06:35.634-04:00Back that Thang Up!<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">No, this post is not about 90's music<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">, I'm just trying to remind everyone to back up all their computer files!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Sad but true I'm reminded of it right now while I stare at my (formerly favorite) little 8 GB jump drive. It has been my partner in crime for the past three years! I have shared all my pictures, spreadsheets and every last one of my Masters assignments with it. It lived in my wallet right next to my other inanimate object BFF, my debit card. But today it decided to be a little punk and change it's formatting so that I can't access anything on it.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I keep asking myself, "How did we share so much over so many years for it to just turn it's back on me?!?"

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">When it first happened, Denny (being the rational husband he is) calmed me down and took me to the wizards of all computer woes, The Geek Squad! Surely those amazingly knowledgeable guys would be able to outsmart a teeny tiny two ounce jump drive. Right? Wrong!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The geeks sadly looked at me and said there was nothing they could do. It was crushing and heartbreaking. And then I lost it. Right there in Best Buy. I was "that pregnant women" crying over all my lost pictures and documents from the past three years. Pa-thetic! The two geeks behind the counter were clearly cursing at themselves for ever applying for the job and just kept trying to tell me how sorry they were in hopes I would eventually disappear. Talk about embarrassing. Who's the geek now?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I know there are millions of things in life that could be worse, way worse. But this is a major bummer. Pictures from over thirty weddings, twenty holidays and countless hours of assignments for my Masters. I honestly feel like part of my MBA is going to be taken away from me because I can't support the fact that I ever wrote a paper.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So now I'm spending my evening sulking, being cranky and googling answers of how to regain 8 gigs of my life. Thus far the search has been unsuccessful. Supposedly there are a few options that can help me restore my files but I won't know for sure if the claims prove to be true without a swipe of my credit card for $45 or $79 dollars. I might sleep on it so I can make a more logical, less emotional decisions.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">In the meantime, I keep playing a slide show in my head of all the times I saved stuff on my little jump drive while It's so Hard to Say good-bye to Yesterday plays in the background of my brain.

I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow and feel better, and maybe even find the miraculous download that will help me restore all my memories and hard work. In the meantime, don't be a Juvenile and lose you documents. Quit reading this blog and back that thang up! It's the only way to ensure you won't be cursing the lost pictures in your Semi-Charmed Life.Denny & Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14851881460150984702noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2138068046076941274.post-72498483776018805222012-06-19T23:05:00.002-04:002012-07-15T22:06:35.675-04:00One cool kiddo<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I have already mentioned about a hundred times how lucky I have been to grow up with great parents, but it is the truth! One thing that was super cool about my Dad is that he was a Big Brother through Big Brothers Big Sisters in his twenties . Dad kept in touch with Bobby, his Little Brother, during his 30's, 40's, 50's and even today!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It motivated me from a young age to be involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters once I was in a stable job and city. This came about six years ago when I landed in Buffalo. So I gave the Buffalo Big Brothers Big Sisters organization a call, and a few interviews later I was matched with cutie-pie, Erma! She was 6 going on 7 at the time and was sweet as could be!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Fast forward five years we are still matched and see each other regularly. We have gone putt-putting, baked cookies, watched movies, visited trampoline parks, and just hung out over pizza. (I'm pretty sure that I have more fun when we are together than she does)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">She is turning 12 in eleven days and I can't believe what an amazing, sweet and thoughtful young lady she is becoming. Despite some tough circumstances in her life she is an awesome little girl. One thing I love about her is her outlook on life. When we are together I'm always reminded of the real important things in life.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Some of my favorite conversations with Erma have kept me laughing for days. Here is my favorite example of her view on life:
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> (While playing the Guess How Old We Are game)
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> Denny: Erma, guess what year I was born...
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> Erma: Hmm, I'm not sure Denny. When?
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> Denny: Erma I was born in the 70's!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> Erma: No way, did you know Jesus?!?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Too funny, and a great reminder to me of how lucky I am to be matched with such a cool kiddo! Denny & Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14851881460150984702noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2138068046076941274.post-83534312950236047992012-06-18T22:57:00.001-04:002012-07-15T22:06:35.685-04:00Picture of the Week ~Happy Father's Day!~<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">A day late but just as important is this week's Picture of the Week. Weekday bookends perhaps. Today was the yin to Monday's yang; the salt to Monday's pepper, and the Matt Lauer to Monday's Katie Couric (still the best co-hosts on Today's show history, in my opinion).

Talk about chemistry! I loved them

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Maybe I should have been more worried today when my instincts told me to pack water, snacks and flip-flops before I left for Canada. Or maybe I should have know that my good old Jeep Liberty would eventually need a break... But I didn't.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So off to I went Canada today thinking my Nexus pass would be my ticket to fast border crossings on a day when a hundred thousand people were flocking to the Falls to watch crazy Wallenda walk on a wire.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It was a Friday and I was feeling good... I quickly stopped in the offices in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and then hopped in my car to zip over to the hotel and meet my client. And suddenly, my car would not start. Hmm, not good. But being the brilliant woman I am, I figured it had to be a temporary issue. I would meet with my client for lunch and by then the car would fix itself. They do that, right?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Four hours later I was ready to head home. Computer bag loaded, key in ignition aaaand... nothing.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Great. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Peachy. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Awesome.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I was a happy camper.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Three rounds of unsuccessful jumper cables later did nothing but jump start my fear of being stranded in Canada all weekend. And then my fear got even more real when I realized that Denny could pick me up IF only he could access his passport locked in our fireproof box.. ya know, the one that I locked with the key on my key chain.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Tick tick tick. It was now almost 3 PM. All the local car places were closing for the weekend in 120 minutes and I had no solution. Hmm, time for AAA intervention. And what a worthwhile call! Turns out towing a car across the border IS possible! Success.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So by 4ish, I hopped up in the cab of the CAA truck and off we went. Matt the driver has 5 kids ages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 (whoa), and told me all about how to remove Crayola from kid's bedroom walls. Good to know. We crossed the bridge and by 5 he was unloading my car from his truck.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Turns out Canadian drivers don't drive into the US and US drivers don't pick up in Canada, so I bid farewell to Matt, the baby-makin tow-truck driver, and waited for the tow truck driver from AAA to pick me up and take me on my last leg of the journey. I waited, and waited, and waited. Ninety minutes later, Dan arrived and loaded up the Liberty. It was the victory lap to a long day.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Dan was quite chatty. He broke the ice by asking if my pregnancy was a surprise (did he not notice that I practically have gray hair?), and then told me about how I am building character with Beanette by allowing her to ride in a tow truck. Not exactly my goal, but I guess it was a bonus for the day.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">By the time we pulled into the mechanics lot, tow-truck drive Dan was telling me step-by-step instructions of how to remove a cat's head from a glass jar if it was to get stuck. Yep, more useless knowledge. I nodded, convinced him to give me a Pregnancy Discount (he agreed<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">!) and said Good Bye to Chatty Dan. My ordeal was over and my cute hubby was waiting!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It took almost five hours to travel home about 50 miles but it was quite the memorable (and comical) end to my week. I'm finally at home... relaxing.. and enjoying my Friday with Denny, our character-filled Beanette and our cat (whose head is luckily not stuck in a glass jar).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I snoozed... too much.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Then it turned into more of a Monday.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We realized the oven likely needs replaced.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Lexi got sick again.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">And Lexi got sick 2 more times.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It was only 8:18 AM. Oh Monday.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">BUT then...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The jeweler called and my rings were cleaned and ready early.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We got a great coupon on the mail.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Our doctor's office was actually running ahead of schedule.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We got to see the Little Beanette!!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We had her six month sonogram and she looks super healthy & way cute!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Her heartbeat is perfect and her size is great!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We are SO lucky!!!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">..............................

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As a bonus we got home and Beanette was thrilled to see some of her Signal Drive Aunties. She put on quite the performance and they got to feel her kick. So cool!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Perhaps she will someday live out my childhood dream and be a Radio City Rockette. I would be one proud Momma to spend my Thanksgiving morning watching our Little Beanette (I promise we will name her by then) kick her way down 6th Avenue.
